The hands that built Kodaikanal

When travellers look at the finely manicured lawns of The Carlton or KIS, one cannot help but wonder how a hillstation with its steep terrains could be flattened and massaged into a beautiful garden to walk around and enjoy. We show you today a video of how Kodai Labourers toil 8 hours a day doing exactly what we describe.

With neither scaffolding nor warm clothing and bare feet, these skilled artists build gardens with bare hands on terrains where JCB and other equipment cannot reach. What an irony that one of the most indispensible jobs in the world (that requires brain and brawn) is one of the cheapest in the world paying about Rs 250 - Rs 300 per day.

We felt that no site about Kodai is complete without showcasing their skills ! Our apologies for capturing their entire day's work in a 3 minute video!
